Mountain Pine BeetleArborTrue California would like to share the mountain pine beetle facts you have been looking for - along with a real solution to the pine bark beetle outbreak in our area. Mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) is a parasite of pine trees. The beetle lives in the layer between the bark and the sap wood which causes a girdling effect in the tree. This causes the tree to die suddenly. Ponderosa pine and Sugar pine are among the most affected while Digger Pine seems to be less affected. Mountain pine beetle has had devastating effects in Amador County, Calaveras County, El Dorado County, Placer County, and Nevada County, often times killing entire forests. You can have your trees immunized by a professional ISA Certified Arborist. Studies indicate, and our experience has been that you can decrease tree mortality by 80%. This means if you treat 100 trees, you can expect 80 of them to remain beetle free. In some situations your Arborist will make other recommendations that may improve the odds of survival up to 90% or even more.

Bark BeetlesOur direct trunk injection method of treatment for Bark Beetles allows the medication to stay inside the tree. The solution lasts for two years which is 8 times longer than spraying.
This patented method has been tested and proven by the forest service on a four year study. Trees that are injected will not harm beneficial insects because the only insect that can come in contact with the solution is one that is boring into the tree or grazing on the needles. In other words, it only kills beetles including the mischievous bark beetles and other parasites. |
Why Not Just Spray the Trees?
Spraying for Mountain Pine Beetle simply just doesn't work, its messy, and it's not environmentally friendly. Bark Beetles bore their way into the tree and will not be exposed to the insecticide that is sprayed on the bark and leaves.
Spraying insecticides that can kill the pine bark beetle will mostly kill bees, butterflies, beneficial insects, and basically any insect or arachnid. It's also very expensive to spray a 200'-250' tall pine! Even if you could spray the whole tree the insecticide will only last for 90 days at most and would have to be applied again.
